Principal's Message

Dear Students and Families,

With February on the calendar for this week, the second semester is well-underway. I just want to take a minute to bring you up to speed.

We continue to give information and updates on our Facebook page. Please look for, like, and follow us by searching @OregonDavisJrSrHigh on Facebook or in Messenger.

We will be scheduling with students next week.  We offer a large selection of AP courses in US History, Studio Art, English, Environmental Science, and Calculus.  In addition we are partnered with a number of CTE (Career Technical Education) agencies such as the SCILL center in Knox, IvyTech, and Ancilla College to offer our students programs in welding, cosmetology, auto tech, early childhood development, and criminal justice, just to name a few.

In addition, spring sports are coming up.  Track, Baseball, and Boys Golf are forming teams and planning some pre-season activities.  All teams need students who are willing to take some risks and try something new.

We want everyone to remember 'We Are Bobcats: Bringing our Best Character, Attitude, Teamwork, & Scholarship!'

If you ever have any questions, please feel free to contact us. We wish to continue to partner with parents to ensure the success of all our students.

Sincerely,
Chris Matthys
Principal

About ODHS

Oregon-Davis Jr.-Sr. High School is part of the Oregon-Davis School Corporation which is located in Hamlet, Indiana (Starke County). The school is a consolidation of Oregon Township and Davis Township. The first graduating class was the class of 1964. After the consolidation, grades 9-12 were held in the Grovertown High School Building and grades 7-8 were held at the former Hamlet High School. The elementary was built in the early 1980s.

The junior-senior high building opened in the spring of 1971 with its first graduating class that May. The building has been renovated twice with the first renovation beginning in 1999. At this time, additional classrooms were added to the back of both the circles. The second renovation began in the spring of 2010 and was a smaller project enlarging existing classrooms. This was when Oregon-Davis became a New Tech High School (project based learning). The architectural design of the high school is two round domes. The folklore in the community is that the school was designed to look similar to the University of Notre Dame’s Athletic & Convocation Center.

The community is rural with a strong economy in agriculture. There is only one factory in the community. As such, many of our students are from farm families, are active in organizations like 4-H, and we are starting to see an influx of migrant workers attending our school.

ODJSHS is a technology rich environment which utilizes one-to-one technology. Students in 7th-12th grade are assigned an iPad. Teachers are assigned Macbooks and teaching classrooms are outfitted with projectors. We also utilize Canvas as a learning management system, wherein teachers catalogue/inventory lessons, activities, and assessments. As a school corporation, we utilize PIVOT Inspect as our formative assessment system to track student data and growth.

Parents have access to a wealth of knowledge about our school via our web site. Here they can find school menus, register for school, and access counseling information. Over the last year and a half, ODJSHS has increased its social media presence via Facebook, which has become a primary source for disseminating information to our parents and the community.

The building consists of grades 7-12. There are 258 students, 120 boys and 138 girls. There are 52.3% of the students who participate in free and reduced lunch programs. Demographically, the student population is: 88.8 % white (Non-Hispanic); 7.8% Hispanic; and 1.9% multiracial.

For the 2017-18 school year, there are 28 staff members. The total number of certified teaching staff members is 21, with 4 of them being new certified staff members.
